{"id":973,"date":"2012-08-17T00:34:41","date_gmt":"2012-08-17T00:34:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.maxcraft.ca\/blog\/?p=973"},"modified":"2013-03-18T18:46:15","modified_gmt":"2013-03-18T18:46:15","slug":"new-taws-regulations-now-in-effect","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.maxcraft.ca\/blog\/new-taws-regulations-now-in-effect\/","title":{"rendered":"TAWS Regulations now in effect!"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>TAWS Rules<a href=\"http:\/\/www.maxcraft.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/GTN750Taws.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-985\" title=\"GTN750Taws\" src=\"http:\/\/www.maxcraft.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/GTN750Taws-300x285.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"270\" height=\"257\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.maxcraft.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/GTN750Taws-300x285.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.maxcraft.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/GTN750Taws.jpg 438w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 270px) 100vw, 270px\" \/><\/a><\/h1>\n<p>Transport Canada issued the final amendments to the CARs mandating which aircraft require a Terrain Awareness Warning System (TAWS) on July 4th. \u00c2\u00a0Aircraft manufactured before July 4, 2012 have two years after the date of the final\u00c2\u00a0rule\u00c2\u00a0to have a TSO-C151b-compliant TAWS Systems installed and Transport Canada- certified.<\/p>\n<p>The Transport Canada TAWS regulations also require that the TAWS equipment incorporate a unique Canadian requirement for Enhanced Altitude Accuracy (EAA) functionality. \u00c2\u00a0All TAWS Systems must address the EAA requirement within 5 years of the date of the rule&#8217;s promulgation.<\/p>\n<h2>The Definition of TAWS:<\/h2>\n<p>Terrain Awareness Warning System which is an aircraft system that is intended to provide the flight crew with both aural and visual alerts to aid in preventing inadvertent controlled flight into terrain, obstacles or water.<\/p>\n<h2>TAWS Class B<\/h2>\n<p>The Class B system provides a good level of protection at a reasonable cost and it will be required for Private turbine-powered Aeroplanes configured with 6 or more seats, excluding pilot seats, commercial subpart 703 air taxi Aeroplanes configures with 6 or more seats excluding pilot seats and Commuter subpart 704 Aeroplanes configured with 6 to 9 passenger seats excluding pilot seats.<\/p>\n<h2>TAWS Class A<\/h2>\n<p>The Class A system provides the highest level of protection but it has a significantly higher cost than a Class B system. \u00c2\u00a0It will be required in commuter subpart 704 Aeroplanes configured with 10 or more passenger seats, excluding pilot seats and in aeroplanes operating under subpart 705 airline operations.<\/p>\n<h3>\u00c2\u00a0Transport Canada<\/h3>\n<p>offers more \u00c2\u00a0detailed information on their website below<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/gazette.gc.ca\/rp-pr\/p2\/2012\/2012-07-04\/html\/sor-dors136-eng.html\">http:\/\/gazette.gc.ca\/rp-pr\/p2\/2012\/2012-07-04\/html\/sor-dors136-eng.html<\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you need to update your aircraft with TAWS or have questions in regards to TAWS, call us and we can help!<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.maxcraft.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\">Maxcraft Avionics<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0is a leader in airplane and helicopter avionic\u00c2\u00a0system upgrades like the Garmin GTN series, including installation of everything from a basic\u00c2\u00a0VHF\u00c2\u00a0Radio and simple Garmin portable GPS all the way to\u00c2\u00a0TCAS, EFIS,\u00c2\u00a0and autopilot\u00c2\u00a0systems.
