Bell 212’s arrive at Maxcraft

This pair of Bell 212’s is owned and operated by one of Maxcrafts most frequent and valued clients. This year these aircraft returned to our CYPK facility after more than three years of operation in Afghanistan. Prior to that mission, the aircraft were stripped of IFR equipment, optimizing them for VFR operation and reducing their weight considerably. With these aircraft back in Canada, Maxcraft Avionics was tasked with re-installation of IFR equipment in preparation for work at home. As the original installer for much of this equipment and the holder of relevant STCs for Dual GNS530s and Kratos EHSIs, Maxcraft was a best choice for this refit. Reinstallation of this IFR equipment occurred concurrently with airframe reassembly and other maintenance carried out by our client’s engineer here at our facility.

Maxcraft’s IFR STC package for Bell 212 helicopters includes dual Rogerson Kratos EHSI units as well as Dual Garmin GNS530’s (one of which is installed in the centre console). Both the navigators and EHSIs were fully integrated into a legacy Sperry/Honeywell Helipilot Flight Director System. While this Sperry IFR system is older, it was incredibly advanced for its time, and is still highly functional when integrated with modern avionic systems like the GNS-530. Legacy HSI systems, on the other hand, are severely limited in their capability to interface with modern GPS systems. Newer electronic HSI units like the Rogerson Kratos EHSIs shown here are fully capable of interfacing with GPS navigators and provide highly improved situational awareness in comparison to legacy electromechanical systems.

Maxcraft Avionics is a leader in airplane and helicopter avionic system upgrades like the Garmin GTN series, including installation of everything from a basic VHF Radio and simple Garmin portable GPS all the way to TCAS, EFIS, and autopilot systems. We have the largest avionics facility in Canada and we have over 20,000 unique part numbers in our in inventory to repair your aircraft or upgrade your cockpit.

Wireless Headset / Intercom Adapter now with Radio Transmit!

wiJAC™ by Jupiter Avionics.

Announcing the wiJAC-D01 Wireless Dropcord.

The wiJAC™ is a great new wireless product for the commercial helicopter operator. The wiJAC™ Wireless Aircraft Headset / Intercom Adapter system consists of two components which provide a wireless full-duplex audio link between the aircraft’s intercom system and the user’s headset.

Adapters are available for different headset connector styles. The JA61 component plugs directly into the aircraft audio system via a standard headset jack and the JA60 component connects to a standard aircraft headset and attaches to the user’s belt. Together the two separate components allow aircraft personnel free movement both inside and outside the aircraft. (Typical range 100 metres)

  • The headset adapter features only essential controls to ensure ease of operation.
(VOX and ICS volume control knobs, and on/off and PTT buttons.)
  • A light on each unit indicates when the RF communication link is established, and a micro USB charging port is provided for connection to a USB charging source.
  • Charging cable and rechargeable batteries are included with each system.
  • Multiple paired adapters can be co-located in the same aircraft without interference
  • The RF communication is encrypted to provide a secure link.
Now Jupiter is introducing the wiJAC-D01. The wiJAC-D01 has the added freedom that a wireless system introduces, using a standard aircraft headset and the existing aircraft installation.  Controls on the headset adapter have been kept to a minimum to ensure ease of operation. As well as VOX and Volume controls there are two buttons, one for ICS PTT and one for TX (radio) PTT.  When TX PTT is activated, the microphone audio is transmitted to the aircraft audio controller and then to the selected aircraft radio.

STC for the GTN series on rotorcraft

Garmin gets an AML STC for the GTN Series on Rotocraft

Thanks to Garmin and Lucy’s logbook, we were able get more information on the buzz about this STC.

This community is so excited to hear that Garmin has recently obtained an AML (Approved Model List) STC (Supplemental Type Certificate) for Part 27 rotorcraft for

GTN - Helithe GTN series, which allows for the installation of the GTN 650/750 and GMA 35 remote audio panel into approved rotorcraft.

Rotorcraft listed below are approved under the latest series of certification:

  • Bell 206B, 206L, 206L-1, 206L-3, 206L-4, and 407 series
  • Eurocopter AS350B2, AS350B3, EC130B4, EC130T2
  • MD Helicopters 369E, 369F, 369FF

As part of the GTN Part 27 AML STC, HTAWS (Helicopter Terrain Awareness and Warning System) is included for the listed models. HTAWS offers pilots an enhanced level of situational awareness through forward-looking terrain and obstacle avoidance (FLTA) alerts. Garmin HTAWS also incorporates a high-resolution, five color terrain scale (red, orange, yellow, green, and black) and offers voice callouts in one hundred foot intervals when descending from 500 to 100 feet Above Ground Level (AGL).

GTN Heli-3 Also included is the approval for Telligence™ Voice Command for some models listed within the AML. Simply put, Telligence speech recognition technology allows pilots to active audio panel functions via spoken commands. For example, by activating the push-to-talk button on the controls and saying, “Comm One,” the pilot can easily select the radio without taking his/her hands off the flight controls.

As your local Garmin dealer, don’t hesitate to call us or come in and talk to us about this STC.

Garmin Technology Seminar

Maxcraft hosts its 2013 Garmin Technology Seminar

We did it again! Maxcraft’s 2013 Garmin Seminar was our most successful yet and one of Garmin’s largest!

With over 150 people attending, demo equipment, cockpit displays, drinks and a delicious chili dinner,  the evening was both entertaining and informative. After dinner and a bit of mingling between guests and staff, the main event got underway.

Wayne McGhee, our Garmin speaker, spoke about new technology and all that Garmin’s current product lineup has to offer — From light fixed-wing aircraft to commercial helicopters and business jets, he had the answers to most questions.  Wayne focused on the operation, features and benefits of Garmin’s latest generation of panel mount products.

Whilst Wayne was speaking, our guests were able to have a first hand look at fully-installed systems and projects in-progress right in our hangar!  Wayne talked about ADS-B, portables, Canadian FliteCharts the new Garmin GPS Watch. We had various draws and prizes throughout the show for products courtesy of Garmin and Maxcraft.  During the presentation our guests took turns checking out the powered up Garmin cockpits of a Cessna 182P and a Beech 58P Baron.  Also on display was a 1954 Boss Beaver currently disassembled for a full Garmin glass panel upgrade.

During our break, coffee and various desserts were gobbled up and demo’s were played with.  After the break, we did our draw for the most anticipated prize, the brand new Garmin D2 GPS Watch.   Our winner, Mr. Ken Ayre is pictured above.

After the break our guest speaker, Don Bradshaw gave us a PowerPoint presentation on his transatlantic trips in glass cockpit piston Baron.   It was exciting! He had some excellent photos both from out the window and on the ground, everywhere from Argentina, London, Paris, to Greenland.
